Each year on Good Friday, EASTER EGG HUNTS
FOR DOGS are held at a number of locations across
Ontario
in support of NATIONAL SERVICE DOGS. Between 2003 and 2008 one of the Hunts
was held at Thistledown Pet Memorial. Although we are still working with NSD,
starting
in 2009, the Hunt will be held at Heydenshore
Kiwanis Park in Whitby. Follow Brock Street
(Whitby) south of the 401 to Water Street, then
east to the park. The park is on the lake side
of the road with parking across the street. |
|
On Good Friday morning over
the past several years, approximately 3,500
plastic Easter eggs were scattered throughout
each of the eight Hunt areas (Barrie,
Brampton, Etobicoke, Kitchener,
London, Oakville,
Uxbridge and Windsor).
Each egg contained a dog biscuit, and each year
over 500 of the eggs at each site have also
contained a prize ticket. Every year local community
members and businesses donate hundreds of prizes
including a special GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE
egg prize. Special prizes are also awarded to
the top three pledge earners at each site. Lots
of goodies, soft drinks and coffee top off the
event. |

So plan on bringing your 4-legged
family member (and the kids) out for a morning
of fun. Pledge sheets are available on-line
(see below), so you can start collecting pledges
right away. Non-dog owners are also welcome.
For those who would like to
support NSD's great work but who are unable
to attend the Egg Hunt, simply make a donation
to NSD by either dropping
your donation off at Thistledown or mailing
it to us (click here for our address). A tax receipt will be issued for donations
of $20.00 or more accompanied by the donor’s
name and address. |
PLEASE NOTE:
1) Credit card registration and pledging are now available;
2) Collect pledges individually or work as part of
a team.
Visit the NSD web site for Egg Hunt Details, to download
an Egg Hunt Pledge Sheet or to download an Egg
Hunt Registration Form.
Shadow Box
Workshops
Making a Shadow Box can be fun as well as therapeutic.
Workshops held at Thistledown Pet Memorial have proven
to be very successful in both of these areas.
Thistledown staff hold regular
Shadow Box Workshops where approximately 6 people
make a special keepsake of their beloved pets. Clients
bring along any items, belongings and memorabilia
they have from their pets. There will be additional
things available one can use to add to the boxes (e.g.
special papers for backgrounds, beads, pine cones,
letters etc.). Each participant will have a choice
of nine different frames for his/her Shadow Box. Each
finished box is 9" x 14" and can be used
either vertically or horizontally.
At the end of the three hour (approx.) afternoon
or evening workshop, each participant will take home
his or her finished Shadow Box to proudly hang or
display at home. What a lasting tribute to our beloved
pets!
The workshop price includes one 9” x 14” framed shadow
box, materials for assembling boxes, additional supplies
to complete the boxes, as well as instruction. For
more details and dates of upcoming workshops contact
